Generalized Transceiver Beamforming for DFRC With MIMO Radar and MU-MIMO Communication

Spatial beamforming is an efficient way to realize dual-functional radar-communication (DFRC). In this paper, we study the DFRC design for a general scenario, where base station (BS) simultaneously detects target as multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) radar while communicating with multiple multi-antenna communication users (CUs). This necessitates joint transceiver both MIMO and multi-user (MU-MIMO) communication. order characterize performance tradeoff between MU-MIMO communication, first define achievable region of system. Then, radar-centric communication-centric optimizations are formulated achieve boundary region. For optimization, successive convex approximation (SCA) method adopted solve non-convex constraint. solution based on weighted mean square error (MSE) criterion obtained objective function. Furthermore, two low-complexity designs CU-selection zero-forcing proposed avoid iteration, closed-form expressions derived. Simulation results provided verify effectiveness all designs.
